I absolutely love working with encaustic and cold wax when creating my abstract paintings as they both have different ways of finding texture and movement within the media. Each layer of the encaustic media is fused using a heat dryer (or iron) which creates some awesome effects and then I add a little gold leaf powder or gold leaf for some extra lushness. I usually work with around 7 layers – making the finished painting undeniably very tactile indeed. Cold wax is worked into the painting without heat but can also create some wonderful layered finishes. I make my own encaustic wax using beeswax and damar glue and then I add the pigment to produce the exact colours I want, its great fun mixing everything together. Hope you enjoy this gallery of abstracts and thank you for visiting.
